A new year and new names for mussels!

In late 2017 a paper was released titled, “A Revised List of the Freshwater Mussels (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Unionida) of the United States and Canada.” Due to genus and sub-species changes, this paper revises several scientific names for various mussel species within Ohio — to the consternation of ecologists everywhere, who have spent a significant amount of time memorizing all the former scientific names! (We jest, but are confident they all will have the new names under control in no time!) So before you go calling something a Quadrula pustulosa you may want to check this source (or check with STONE 😁)
