Campus Building Asbestos Surveys – The Ohio State University – Columbus, Ohio

STONE was retained to conduct asbestos surveys at multiple buildings on The Ohio State University (OSU) campuses located in Columbus and Newark, Ohio in conjunction with Resource International Inc. Using minimal-destruction sampling techniques, STONE observed each building for the presence of asbestos, including Category I and Category II, friable and non-friable asbestos containing materials (ACM).  Homogenous areas (unless realistically unobtainable or non-feasible) were sampled as prescribed by 40 CFR 763.86 to include surfacing materials, thermal system insulation, miscellaneous material, friable and non-friable suspected asbestos containing building materials.  Bulk samples were analyzed utilizing Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 600/R-93/116 using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) in combination with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) as needed. Building materials, sample data, and results were compiled into a database for OSU. Quantities of ACM were calculated and locations were displayed on OSU building drawings.
