Domestic Cold Water System Improvements – The Ohio State University – Columbus, Ohio

The Ohio State University contracted STONE to prepare construction plans for an upgrade to its domestic cold water distribution system serving the east side of the Columbus campus. The project included the design and routing of a new 8-inch diameter cold water line that cuts through the Oval and into College Road, a major vehicle thoroughfare through the campus. As part of the water line replacement, ADA crosswalk improvements were designed at various locations along the waterline route along College Road. Utility quality levels C and D were utilized in developing the construction drawings for this project.

Key challenges of this project were working around an extensive array of underground utilities including utility tunnels, keeping intact existing landscaping including mature trees, and developing a construction plan that addressed maintenance of traffic for both vehicles and pedestrians for a campus of over 50,000 students.

In addition to preparing the construction documents, STONE provided construction administration services to verify the location and installation techniques for the water line and the layout and quality of the ADA sidewalk ramps.
